1st tier candidate:
Adam Kemper
b ca 1782 - d 1850 in Earl, PA
1847 and 1848 a carpenter in Earl tax lists and a cooper in his 1850 probate.

As reported by Dan:
"One plane I was happy to take home today was a nice early panel raiser by A. Kemper.
He is noted in AWP5 from PA, circa 1800 but no further information.
I have done some research as I have at least one other plane by him, and I believe this to be by Adam Kemper, born 1782 in Earl, Lancaster County and Died in 1850. An earlier version of his name is noted as Kampfer.
He is listed as a carpenter in Ephrata in the 1840's and also later as a Cooper, the industry being noted as Miscellaneous Wood Products.
It has intermittent rosewood boxing biscuits and a nice round top wedge...no mark on the iron."
Two additional A Kemper's were found. An Abraham was listed in Montgomery Co., PA in 1793 and his trade was given as a farmer on a 1800 tax list. An Andrew was listed in Bucks Co., PA in 1786 but no trade could be found. Deeds were searched in each county, but no additional information was found.
