A Breig

1st tier candidate; Ambrose Breig born ca 1818 in Baden, Germany and died in 1885 in Meyersdale, Somerset Co., PA.  His wife was Margaret and his children were Mary, Esther, Elizabeth, Martha, Peter, Aplh, Louisa, George and Eva.

He was listed as a jointer in the 1850 census and as a carpenter in the 1880 census. In deeds starting in 1864 he's in Salisbury, Elk Lick and finally Meyersdale but no trades are mentioned. In a deed entry from 1886, his real estate is being assessed and it notes a two story frame dwelling house, a wash house, a stable and a carpenters shop that was erected thereon.

His will provided the names of his family members, but no other pertinent details were included.

No other A Breigs were found in the US census records prior to 1880 and 1850 was the first year that Ambrose was included.

The plane.

(The presentation of visually based elements (scale imprints, scale drawings, etc.) is a challenge, especially when moving from the printed page to the realm of an electronic medium. For reference, the original GAWP 5, CAWP, BARS and SOJ publications had pages which were 8-1/2" in width.)
