John Taber (1700-1756), a joiner and housewright, was cited in GAWP5 as a possible craftsman who made the planes marked J Taber. As the planes date to about 1790, it also mentioned that a later relation may also be responsible.
Deeds from Bristol and Plymouth were searched for additional candidates with one 1st tier individual found. Jeduthun Taber was b in Fairhaven, MA in 1771 and d in Ithiaca, NY in 1855. Jeduthun married Mary Pope in 1795 and they had six children.
He was a Lt. in the War of 1812. The family moved to NY state in 1818. In the Landmarks of Tompkins County, by John H. Selkreg, Jeduthun was "a ship builder of New Bedford, who came to Tompkins County about 1818 and bought a tract of land at the head of the lake, where he conducted a tavern many years and also engaged in boat building. “
