Samuel Cordis Norcross (b. 1831, d. Nov. 28, 1901 in Cambridge, MA)

The son of Leonard Norcross listed as a millwright and inventor. Samuel was first listed as a millwright, apparently he apprenticed under his father. Samuel's first patent, while living in Dixfield, Maine, was granted on Oct. 4, 1856 for an Adjustible Stirrup for a Sawmill Pitman. His second patent was granted Aug. 25, 1863 for an improved Auger Stock. From 1877 through 1884, S. C. Norcross was listed as a millwright living in Portland, Maine. The 1897 and 1901 Cambridge City Directories lists him as a Mechanical Engineer. The census record for 1900 lists him as a "Capitalist".
