Multiple possibilities in the 1794 NYC Directory:

Samuel, Alexander, Anthony, William, 1 no given name and 2 John's, all house carpenters. Robert a coachmaker. 

 

In a 1822 edition of the Directory, a William is listed as a fancy chair maker, another William as a cabinet maker and a third William as a carpenter. The chairmaker William was b in 1758. In an 1813 Directory, a William Jr. is listed as a cabinetmaker.

The known molder is thought to be ca 1770 -1780

The plane is 10 1/16" long, 3 7/16" tall, beech, with 3/8" flat chamfers and inset intermittent boxing.
